Changes in the skin of the face, drooping eyebrows and fat deposits
on the upper eyelids are the first signs of the normal aging process. So-called
bags under the lower eyelids and the inner corners of the upper eyelids, which are
caused by loosening of the soft tissue around the eyes, may occur in addition to
wrinkles and drooping.
The first signs in the morning – puffy eyes – may become noticeable as early as
25. Drooping eyelids become more frequent in the mid-30s or 40s and become more
pronounced in the 50s.
Make up does not help as it disappears into the folds. Very heavy eyelids may even
disturb vision as they drop over the eyes.
Drooping eyelids are a highly individual problem and depend largely on hereditary
factors, as well as the specific qualities of your skin – it is more frequent in
people with thin and dry skin.
Eyelid correction surgery can produce excellent results when performed at a younger
age, because surgery on younger people is less complicated, your skin is more elastic
and recovery is quicker. Results are relatively permanent – no large bags will appear
under the eyes again even if wrinkles appear around them over time. In some cases,
eyelid correction can be done at the same time as a facelift.
Will plastic surgery leave scars?
Putting stitches around the eyes in such a manner that the scars
are hidden in the natural folds of the skin so that make up produces a natural result
is a real art. The redness of the scars will fade in time and they will become almost
unnoticeable.
About the surgery
This surgery is performed under local anaesthetic, which is sufficient.
If you wish, we can perform the surgery under light general anaesthetic. We examine
the sensitivity of the patient in order to select the most suitable method of anaesthesia,
which will be determined by the physician-anaesthesiologist in our clinic based
on your pre-surgery interview.
ECG, venous blood and urine test results must be submitted to the anaesthesiologist
prior to the general anaesthetic. If necessary, the tests will be organised by our
clinic.
Eyelid correction is considered a surgical operation with rare and minimal complications.
However, you may experience stinging in the eyes, tears and swelling that will disappear
over time. Even the most skilled surgeon can never give a full guarantee that there
will be no complications.
After surgery
• You will be wearing bandages for a couple of hours. An ice
pack will be used to reduce swelling. The ice pack must be used a couple of times
a day for the following 4 - 5 days.
• Patients have to lie on their back with their head propped up. The stitches will
be removed on the 3rd or 4th day.
• Your face will look red and swollen before you see a considerable improvement
in your appearance. This always happens during the post-surgery period and it may
make you feel emotionally low. Fortunately, this period will pass quickly.
• If you have had eyelid correction and a facelift at the same time, you will be
able to appear in public again after about three weeks. Swelling is worst 2-3 days
after surgery.
• You can bend down, wash the floor, exercise and go to the sauna three weeks after
surgery.
